there is always that space there
just before they get to us
that space
that fine relaxer
the breather
while say
flopping on a bed
thinking of nothing
or say
pouring a glass of water from the
spigot
while entranced by
nothing
that
gentle pure
space
it’s worth
centuries of
existence
say
just to scratch your neck
while looking out the window at
a bare branch
that space
there
before they get to us
ensures
that
when they do
they won’t
get it all
ever.
~Charles Bukowski
I was about to recommend “Bluebird”, but then saw it in your related links. Bukowski poetry is so raw and honest.

Hi Ruby! Jennie and I are both huge Bukowski fans; totally agree about his work being raw and honest, and surprisingly hopeful in many pieces. He should be in the “tag cloud” thing either in a right sidebar on desktops, or at the bottom on mobile devices if you want more. 🙂 “no help for that” is one of my faves, as is Bluebird. Though I’m relating a lot to “8 count” lately, lol.
