To know that the atoms
of my body
will remain
to think of them rising
through the roots of a great oak
to live in
leaves, branches, twigs
perhaps to feed the
crimson peony
the blue iris
the broccoli
or rest on water
freeze and thaw
with the seasons
some atoms might become a
bit of fluff on the wing
of a chickadee
to feel the breeze
know the support of air
and some might drift
up and up into space
star dust returning from
whence it came
it is enough to know that
as long as there is a universe
I am a part of it.
“It Is Enough” by Anne Alexander Bingham
love this
this speaks to me about why i get such great joy in carting tom’s ashes around, scattering them wherever i feel like it.
the tangible mingling of his atoms with the world, even still and always.
the ocean, the lake, the comedy club, the theatre, the best friend’s backyard, the flower pot…
the tangible evidence that he was here.
and the blue iris. he is definitely feeding the blue iris.

I love that. I do similar with my mom and aunt. Mostly I just bring them along for the ride, so to say. They’ve run marathons, jumped off buildings, walked Aruban beaches, and more. Mom always wanted to visit the Redwoods, so fate permitting, that will be my next big trip.

fate better permit…
you get to CA I’ll find a way to get to you!
Tom is scattered in some incredible, beautiful redwoods. I find it so soothing, so fun, so sneaky, so…SO many things bringing and scattering. It definitely is really SO Tom, I am sure he’s enjoying it!

On that sneaky note, I have some of my grandparents’ that I am saving until I get back to my college alma mater (?) football field. They were huge college football fans. Not sure how I’m going to swing that, but I’m sure going to give it a shot! It’ll happen, even if I have to sweet talk one of the players, lol!
CA … DEAL!

You’ll do it, I believe in you!
I’m wondering if i wrote about this before….i have been absolutely dry since that 25 song thing,
maybe a fun post about some of the places I’ve scattered Tom is in order. Entertaining and creepy to those who feel creeped out by this…..
Pebble Beach, 18th hole….bwahhhhaaaaaaaaa

Pebble beach, haha! Your secret is safe with me and our cozy group of very trust-worthy readers (iphone wanted to make that tryst-worthy, haha!) But probably only Jennie who reads the back-comments, lol.
I don’t remember you writing anything about that, (I do go back and read random posts sometimes), but even if you did, it’d be fun to see where your creativity takes you with it now. I’d love to read it! (Could even make a neat book?)
That would be interesting…take a topic or prompt and write on it every 3 months or so (or more or less) and see how your writing voice and answers change in time.
I found an interesting post where the topic was, “you have one hour on a park bench to share with anyone, dead or alive. Who is it? What do you talk about? Or what do you do?”
Hmmm.

Ooh I got it. Instead of 25 songs… 25 places you’ve scattered Tom, or want to.
Creepy, maybe, but how cool would that be?
