“Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman

*

So remember when we were driving driving in your car
Speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped ’round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone

You got a fast car
Is it fast enough so you can fly away?
You gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way

  1. I never could figure what she was saying, until one night my best and I were up jammin’ out an diggin up stuff back in the old days of limewire and file sharing. I sat and listened to that part of the song for, had to be almost an hour. Finally I got it! She sings it SO fast, your arm felt nice wrapped ’round my shoulder….. I bet you could quiz people all day and no one would know those lyrics. I LOVE this song. In my top ten for life. Great pick.

You’re right, CTS, I had kinda forgotten has fast she zooms through the part–like a fast car, huh?
And it’s a bit of a tongue twister too.
Was a pretty big song in my “coming of age,” that whole album was. Top 10 undoubtedly. Good to see you, email anytime if you still have bloggy questions. xo
